Karim Farokhnia, PhD, PE

Founder & Principal Engineer

Dr. Karim Farokhnia is the Founder and Principal Engineer of Prime Design & Engineering, LLC. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana, with expertise in structural engineering, structural inspections, hazard mitigation, and resilient infrastructure systems.

Dr. Farokhnia earned his PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Civil and Sustainability Engineering at Murray State University. His professional and research experience includes structural design, forensic engineering, wind and seismic resilience, flood risk assessment, and AI-assisted infrastructure modeling.

He has authored multiple peer-reviewed engineering publications and has led research projects funded through NSF-related programs focused on structural resilience and emerging building technologies.

Jonathan Murillo

Engineering Associate

Jonathan Murillo is an Engineering Associate at Prime Design & Engineering, LLC. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil and Sustainability Engineering from Murray State University, graduating Cum Laude with academic honors and leadership recognition.

Jonathan has experience in structural analysis, drafting, site inspections, and engineering software including RAM Elements, RISA, Tekla Structural Designer, and AutoCAD. His previous internship experience at Bennett & Pless provided hands-on exposure to structural design, connection detailing, load calculations, and field evaluations for commercial projects.

He is passionate about structural engineering, sustainability, and practical engineering solutions for the built environment.
