Karim Farokhnia, PhD, PE

Founder & Principal Engineer

Dr. Karim Farokhnia is the Founder and Principal Engineer of Prime Design & Engineering, LLC. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana, with expertise in structural engineering, structural inspections, hazard mitigation, and resilient infrastructure systems.

Dr. Farokhnia earned his PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Civil and Sustainability Engineering at Murray State University. His professional and research experience includes structural design, forensic engineering, wind and seismic resilience, flood risk assessment, and AI-assisted infrastructure modeling.

He has authored multiple peer-reviewed engineering publications and has led research projects funded through NSF-related programs focused on structural resilience and emerging building technologies.

Jonathan Murillo, EIT

Engineer I

Jonathan Murillo is an Engineer I at Prime Design & Engineering, LLC and an Engineer in Training (EIT) pursuing his Master of Science in Structural Engineering at Purdue University. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil and Sustainability Engineering from Murray State University, graduating Cum Laude.

Jonathan has experience in structural inspections, structural analysis, repair design, and field evaluations for residential, commercial, and industrial structures across Kentucky and Tennessee. His work includes structural assessments, framing evaluations, repair recommendations, and engineering reporting.

He is proficient in several structural engineering software platforms including RISA, STAAD Pro, SAP2000, Tekla Structural Designer, and MATLAB, and has experience applying ASCE 7 and AISC design standards in practical engineering projects.
